A single kiss ruined him.

How’s a rake supposed to please the ladies if he’s incapable of kissing anyone but her—Lady Charlotte Merriweather, the thorn in Quinton Chance, Viscount Noble’s backside. He should never have kissed her. But what else is a man to do when a beautiful woman cries? Now the one woman who makes him feel weak is the only woman he wants. And he promised his father on his deathbed to never show weakness. A proper society marriage will help him focus on his duties as a peer and banish Lottie’s kiss forever.

A single kiss awakened her heart.

Lottie has been in love with Quinton since he kissed her the day of her parents’ funeral. But he apologized and ran, and now all he gives her is smirks and snide remarks. That’s why she’s determined to forget him, to choose a husband from the many men courting her. But none of them kiss like Quinton, and when she discovers his barbs hide softer feelings for her, she knows she can’t give up. She’ll do her best to romance a rogue and prove loving is no weakness.

The Duke of Clearford’s Guide to Courtship will help Quinton woo a tepid bride, but Lottie will use it to romance her rogue. If these waring lovers can quit arguing long enough, perhaps they’ll see that happily ever after begins with a kiss.

Charlie Lane consistently delivers

Thanks to Wolf Publishing for an ARC of this book, the second in the new series, A Gentleman’s Guide to Courtship.” Just like in the first one, this one makes it clear that the Duke of Clearford, Samuel Merriweather, the man writing the guide, hasn’t a clue about how to woo a woman. And his sisters are there to prove his assumptions wrong, even if they won’t criticize him directly to his face. First, Tristan courted Andromeda, quickly discovering Samuel’s book was bunk. Now, Quinton is using the manual, ostensibly to court other women (not Lottie), and Lottie decides to sneak a look at the manual and use it on Quinton (hence, the title of the book).

Tldr: I recommend the book. It’s everything I’ve come to expect from Charlie Lane—humor, poignancy and spice. (I have a longer review, but space is limited on this website.)

Lottie and Quinton, you little devils

We first met Lottie in the first book of this series, Never Woo the Wrong Lady, and she was suffering from unrequited love for a man that had apparently led her on at some point in their lives then had dropped her like hot potato. Fool, him.

With this book, we get the whole story. We get to see the first kiss six years ago, the circumstances that surrounded it, the fallout from it, and the reason Quinton set Lottie to the side. Then we get to see what happens years later when his mother asks Lottie to help her plan parties and events to introduce Quinton to perspective brides. Meanwhile, Lottie is looking for a husband. Kill two birds with one stone; everybody wins…until Quinton decides he doesn’t want her around and tells her so.

There were some parts of this story that had me laughing out loud. Other parts made me question the intelligence of the characters, but considering what was driving them, it all made sense. This is a classic case of unrequited love for Lottie and Quinton. It would’ve been so easy for them to slide into love, but if that had happened, there wouldn’t have been the longing, angst, jealousy, scandal, off-the-charts steam between Lottie and Quinton, and the camaraderie between Lottie and her sisters.

I wanted them to get their happily ever after. I cheered for them when he stood with her after a big scandal. It was past the point of being mere chivalry or being a gentleman. It was a case of unspoken, denied love come alive, it was magnificent.

I’m usually turned off by headstrong, too-independent heroines, and I did think Lottie overstepped more than a few times, but she had to take the bull by the horns to make things happen. She didn’t know what she was up against and I had to give her kudos for hanging in there.

This book is an easy five stars and I’m excited for the next book.

True Love!!

This is the second book in the ‘A Gentleman’s Guide to Courtship’ series. And Wow, I absolutely love this series!!

Lady Charlotte ‘Lottie’ Merriweather has been in loved with Lord Quinton Chance, Viscount Noble since they were children. Quinton has tried to harden his heart so he doesn’t appear weak and deny his love for Lottie just as long. Quinton decides since he is not marrying for love to have his mother choose his bride. His mother ask Lottie for help in throwing the parties, since she knows Lottie has more experience at them than she does. So let the fun begin!!

This book was absolutely awesome!! It was very entertaining with all the witty banter between Lottie and Quinton and the fun characters to add to the story!! I enjoyed the book from start to finished and can’t wait for the next book in the series!! I highly recommend this book!!

Giggle worthy

Quinton and Lottie were childhood friends until he messed up with a kiss and then distanced himself from her. Now she is helping his mother find him a wife and the hateful banter was so funny I was snort/giggling constantly. I love how they call each other Meriweather and Chance. The story is so well written I can’t wait for more of the series to unfold.
